Rowan Sebastian Atkinson CBE (Consett, January 6, 1955) is an award-winning British actor, voice actor, comedian, screenwriter and engineer born in England. He became known worldwide for the charismatic character Mr. Bean, which he created and played.

Few know, but Rowan has a speech impediment and has trouble pronouncing someSpinning Toys words that start with the letter "B". Perhaps that's why he opted for silent comedy for his character Mr. Bean.
Rowan came to critical attention at the ETdinburg Festival in 1977. He then created his own revue at London's Hampstead Theater in 1978, became a founding member of the BBC's Not the Nine O'clock News - it was an experience that gave him many awards such as Platinum and Gold LP, many successful books, the Silver Rose in Montreal, an International EMMY, the English Academy Award and became BBC Personality of the Year.
In 1981 Rowan became the youngest actor to have a show in London's West End - the season's success at the Globe Theater and won the West End Society's Comedian and Actor of the Year Award. In 1983 Rowan teamed up with the writer Richard Curtis to create and present the comedy series Blackadder for the BBC.
